A quick intro on myself – I have been a competitive body builder for eight years in both figure and physique to international level. So I have “been there – done that” and would like to offer my experience to fellow enthusiasts. Recently I have channeled my energy into motorbike racing which requires a completely different type of fitness so I am enjoying a well rounded approach at the moment!
I would like to kick off with some information for potential novice bodybuilders.
Are you seriously considering competing in a bodybuilding show for the first time?
To carry this thought through to completion requires an extreme dedication that you cannot possibly realize until you have experienced it yourself. However hard you may be thinking the journey will be – triple it! These are my suggestions for you to consider before making the commitment;
- Do you have a base fitness of at least two years incorporating regular weight training?
- Do you have a high disposable income and the full support of those closest to you?
- Are you prepared to cook every single meal you eat – at least six a day?
- Are you ready to give up fat, salt, sugar and alcohol?
- Are you secure enough to let other peoples criticisms wash over you?
- Are you tenacious, determined and motivated?
- Are you prepared to listen to experts and follow their advice?
- Are you ready to receive compliments and respect from complete strangers?
- And MOST importantly – are you physiologically strong enough to deal with the aftermath which can entail weight gain, water retention and possible eating disorders?
If you can truly and honestly answer YES to each of these questions you are already displaying the attitude that could take you through to success.
If you get the combination of training, nutrition and that vital final week exactly right - the journey will culminate with you standing on a stage under bright lights proudly displaying your physique to hundreds and feeling invincible.
Everyone watching will be envious and respectful of the effort and sheer guts it takes to get up there and only you can feel that satisfaction and forever more refer back to the photos and video taken of the day you were SENSATIONAL!!!
